If you believe in your organization, whether government, business, or non-profit, meet as a team to answer two questions: (1) Who is our customer? and (2) What is our “product”?

Too many people today are unhappy in their jobs.  I believe some 70% of people today are unhappy at their organizations.

Why are so many workers unhappy at their job?

Sometimes job unhappiness is due to their not knowing who their customer is or what the product they are delivering, as well as understanding what role they play.

Employees quit easily these days, because they are not happy, and they can stop getting excited about their jobs.

There’s a saying, “the grass is always greener on the other side”.

But I prefer the saying, “the grass is greener on the side ‘that gets maintained the most’”.

Yes, work on developing yourself within your organization, this is a good way for you to tend and “maintain greener grass” at your job.

And this also makes you a more important part of the team.

Who knows, maybe you can step up to leadership (management), promoting your organization’s product to its (your) customers!

If you learn who your customer is at your organization, and what the product is that your organization delivers to its customers, you will be in a better position to understand why you should love and promote your organization’s product.

Remember the saying, LEAD, FOLLOW, or GET OUT OF THE WAY!

Yes, either you step up as a leader in your organization (to promote, sell) your product to your customers, or you “follow” the leaders of your organization, to support the success of your organization.

But never “get in the way”.

There’s no need for you to be “in the way” of the objectives of your organization.

There are so many other organizations out there who would love to have you and your “super attitude”!

Bottom line, get to know your customer and the “product” your organization delivers (sells) to your customers.  Regardless of whether you are in government, business, or non-profit organizations, we all have customers.

It does not matter if you are a Custodian or a City Manager, we all have customers.

Now figure out your product, know your customer, improve upon them, and let’s make our organization a success in 2023!

All for now,
